A Christmas Meme

I enjoyed reading the answers from Hubman at Hubman's Hangout and Jack and Jill at Frisky in the 916 so I thought I'd add my answers to the mix.  Besides, the kids are busy playing and I simply cannot bear watching one more minute of a sappy Christmas movie.

1. Eggnog or Hot Chocolate?
Hot chocolate

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Presents are wrapped with lots of ribbons and bows too

3. Colored lights on the tree/house or white?
Colored lights are on the Christmas tree and white lights are outside.  I want to change to colored lights outside too but am waiting for them to go on sale.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
No. I wish I had someone to kiss :(

5. When do you put your decorations up?
We got the Christmas tree on Thanksiving weekend, but it took us over a week to get the lights and decorations on it. Then it took another week to get the rest of the house decorated.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Romanoff potatoes. A potato casserole dish my mom has made for the last 30 years.

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?
Christmas Eve at my Grandma's.  I have a big extended family that loves to get together. The family all still gets together, but I don't live near them anymore.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I can't remember, but my mom STILL sends me presents from Santa.

9. Do you open gifts on Christmas Eve?
Yes, each kid gets to open one present.

10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?
Sugar cookies

11. Snow! Love it or dread it?
Hate it! We live where there's tons of snow and our snowblower sucks.

12. Can you ice skate?
Yes, and I've actually been skating recently. I skated TONS on a frozen pond as a kid. I loved it so much that I even took 2 years of figure skating lessons at a rink. Now my daughter plays hockey so I started skating again last year so I could skate with her.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
The first things that came to my mind were gifts that I had given special people, not gifts I received.

14. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you?
Making it magical for my kids.

15. What is your favorite holiday dessert?
I make a Nutmeg Log cookie that is my all-time favorite.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Baking and decorating cookies with the kids

17. What tops your tree?
We have a star now (and I've never like it).  I had an angel growing up.

18. What do you prefer… giving or receiving?
Giving

19. What is your favorite Christmas carol?
My favorite traditional carol is Silent Night. My favorite song to listen to at Christmas is a version of Ave Maria sung by Chris Cornell and Eleven that is from an old "Very Special Christmas" CD. It's breathtaking.

20. Candy canes… yuck or yum?
Yum

21. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Yes!  We have some family friends who give us tacky presents each year and they are things I would never use. I try to re-gift them but am still afraid that I'll end up giving them back.

22. Favorite Christmas movie?
Although it's long, I still cry every time I see the last part of  "It's a Wonderful Life"

23. Do you have a nativity scene?
We had one until last year when I gave it to my sister.  It was a Fischer Price Little People nativity scene. My kids are getting bigger and she has toddlers.

24. What’s the most annoying thing about this time of year?
That Christmas things are in stores on Halloween weekend.

  1. First off, your picture is hot. That's not a newsflash, of course.

You can kiss us anytime, mistletoe or not. We wish we were a short car ride from you, rather than a long flight so we could have a hot three-way makeout session right now.

We've never heard of Romanoff potatoes, but we're very intrigued. We love all things potato.

Your answer to #8 is very relatable. My mom once said that if I stop believing in Santa, that's one less gift for me. Sure enough, she still gives me one gift signed from Santa. Or rather, Santa gives me one gift with the tag written in my mom's handwriting.

I love Chris Cornell - seems like we have very similar tastes in music - but I've never heard his version of Ave Maria. I need to track it down ASAP.

Jill loves It's a Wonderful Life. It's one of her favorite movies, and definitely her favorite Christmas movie. Like you, she can't get through the end without Kleenex.

Merry Christmas to the sexiest person we've ever played with!

  2. Mistletoe may long be packed away, but how about a raincheck on that kiss someday ;-)

I couldn't agree more with your response to #14

    Ditto on #24

    Merry Christmas!
